I feel the shift in the wind
I feel the Promised Land giving way
I know when the change began
I shall always remember that day

The Republic stood as one united
In the face of overwhelming tragedy
Set upon us by murderous zealots
Hiding behind the mask of religiosity

We all saw the flames rise
We all saw the towers fall
We all saw the wailing faces
We all felt our senses dulled

The world to our aid did come
Sending messages of hope and sympathy
And for one brief moment it seemed
The world was of like mind and symmetry

And now a year or more later
With the dead rightly honored and the heroes justly praised
The sympathy once deserved now is waning
Thanks to the banners our leader has raised

I see the changes he has wrought
A nation militarized to the core
A nation enslaved to one man’s ambition
A nation enslaved to war

And the Republic on the precipice stands
Teetering ever more over the edge
With liberty having been torn down
And Empire rising in her stead
